Obituary

WILLIAM GILBERT GONZALEZ, 69, of Las Cruces entered eternal life on Monday, October 24, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6, 1953 in Tularosa, NM to Esther Telles Ortega and Tomas Jose Gonzalez. He graduated from Las Cruces High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1971 to 1973.  In 1977 Bill joined the United States Border Patrol and left there in 1984 to pursue his Engineering Degree from New Mexico State University.  He worked as an engineer in Arizona for nearly 25 years before retiring and returning to New Mexico where he became a math teacher at Centennial High School.  He was also a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 38 years, Socorro P. Gonzalez; 3 sons, Manuelito Torres of Albuquerque, William Daniel Gonzalez of Las Cruces, and Eric Gonzalez of Tucson; his mother, Esther Ortega and brother, John Gonzalez all of Los Lunas, NM; 5 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Tomas Jose Gonzalez; sister, Linda Jo Maestas; his maternal grandmother Catherine Telles Ortega who he loved as a mother. Visitation for Mr. Gonzalez will begin at 10:30 AM Monday, November 7, 2022 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street where Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 11 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter. Cremation will follow and Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and El Perro-Diablo Detachment. Serving as caskets bearers will be William, Eric, and John Gonzalez, Joe De Leon, Jose Prieto, and Jeff Brilliant. Honorary bearers will be Derek Gonzalez, Klarissa, Noah, and Manuelito Torres. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapel of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory, 300 E. Boutz Road, 527-2222.
