Las Cruces, NM – Olga G. Hernandez, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister, and friend, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 7, 2021.

Olga was born on July 30, 1931, in Oakland, CA to Miguel Puentes Galvez and Maria Luisa Huerta Galvez. At the age of one and a half she moved to live with her grandmother in Colotlán, a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of ten, she moved to Ciudad Juárez back with her parents and siblings. There she worked in several capacities - at a hospital, as a maid/nanny, and in the onion fields to help support her family.

At the age of fifteen she met her soon-to-be husband, Alberto A. Hernandez. Their relationship did not start out as love at first sight. On the contrary: Olga refused Alberto's advances many times, and she did not want anything to do with him. Eventually, after numerous attempts, he won her over - she finally accepted his proposals and they eloped! On July 17, 1948, at the ages of 16 and 17, Olga and Alberto married; although young, they were steadfast on spending their lives together. What was unknown to them was that this day would be the first of many - a beautiful journey that would last 73 years and create a FAMILY!

During their 73 years of marriage, Olga and her husband were blessed with 17 children (12 boys, 5 girls). Quite often, she laughed about how the doctors and nurses at the hospital knew her by name. "Will this be the last one, Mrs. Hernandez?" they would ask her. And in true faithful fashion, she responded, "only God knows!" Through her children she was enriched with over 50 grandchildren, over 70 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Olga was adored by many. She was the epitome of love, joy, peace, and sincerity. She had a beautiful smile and warm soul. In truth, she genuinely loved everyone she encountered and left a godly impression on all their lives. Her memory and legacy will continue to live in her family and all those fortunate enough to know her.

Olga was a devoted wife, mother, and reverent servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, and led by example. She gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 25 and held her membership in the Apostolic Church of God in Christ close to her heart. She was the backbone of her husband's Apostolic ministry for over 58 years. She served the Lord wholeheartedly - mind, body, and spirit. As many can attest, she was frequently called on as a prayer warrior - her suit of armor always ready for battle, and always laced with gold.

She was our great matriarch – the heart of our family and the glue that bonded us together. Her presence will be greatly missed.

Olga was preceded in death by her daughter, Delia G. Hernandez; her parents, Miguel and Maria Luisa Galvez; and siblings, Irene Galvez, Florentino Galvez, Miguel Galvez, and Luis Galvez. Shortly after her passing, Olga's younger brother, Joshua Galvez, was also called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Olga is survived by her husband, Alberto A. Hernandez; 16 children: Samuel G. Hernandez, Hector G. Hernandez (Susie), Yolanda Roman (Willie), Rosemary Dueñas (Efrain), Alberto A. Hernandez Jr., Carlos G. Hernandez (Sara), Ernesto G. Hernandez, Armando G. Hernandez (Elena), Betty Araiza (Adolph), Moses G. Hernandez, Jacob G. Hernandez, Isaac G. Hernandez, Gracie Arzapalo, Abel G. Hernandez, Andres G. Hernandez and Ismael G. Hernandez; one brother Eliud Galvez and two sisters: Edelmira de la Rosa and Egla Diaz, along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be six of her twelve sons: Alberto Jr., Armando, Moses, Abel, Andres, and Ismael Hernandez.

Honorary pallbearers are the remaining six of her twelve sons: Samuel, Hector, Carlos, Ernesto, Jacob, and Isaac Hernandez.
