It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Tom Selves, on August 28, 2025, at 80 years old.

He grew up in Idaho and served in the US Army for three years with a year of service in Vietnam.  In June 1967, he met the love of his life, Dolores, while working in the hospital at White Sands Missile Range.  They were married on January 27, 1968 and they had three children, Michael, Shelley and Emily. He worked hard to support his family and retired in 2013 to spend time with them and travel.  The many road trips taken to explore our National Parks were some of his most cherished memories.  He loved cowboy movies, green chile, Coors Light, and camping and fishing in the Gila. There were many good times camping with his family that will be fondly remembered along with those Selves family poker nights.

Tom was warm, genuine and friendly, a man who would do anything for his family and friends. He enjoyed every minute and had a sunny outlook in everything he did.  He always had a twinkle in his blue eyes and a welcoming smile, handshake or hug.  His easy-going way and light-hearted mood was contagious and you couldn't help but feel happiness when you were around him. He will be greatly missed.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Dolores; three children, Michael Selves (Louisa), Shelley Valencia (Bob), and Emily Crespin (Bryan); seven grandchildren, Tim Klaus, Cori Zumar, Nova Castillo, Oriana Reyes, Ariana Valencia (Sam Berglas), Henry and Nolan Crespin; and three great grandchildren Scarlett Reyes, Enrique Castillo Jr., and Dash Reyes-Herrera.  He is also survived by brothers, Boyd Selves (Conni) and Forrest Selves (Talie); sisters, Joan Alioto (Ernie), Jan Carlson and Vera Matthews (Ted); sister-in-law, Marylou Vandergriff, her husband Larry and their family, Amy and Isela; and special family friends Jenny Crysler, Shelley Roberson, Diane Campbell (Ed), Dean Bruveleit, and Bonnie Stapleton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree (arborday.org)  in any NM forest .

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and interment of cremains will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial Mass will be held Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Basilica of San Albino, 2070 Calle De Santiago, Mesilla, NM 88046, Very Reverend Chris Williams officiating.  Military honors will be rendered by the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment.  Folding and presentation of the flag will be provided by Jacob Makens and Emily Kroll.  Reception to follow.
