CHARLENE JONES was born THELMA CHARLENE SCHAFER, at her family’s home near Burns, Kansas on March 2, 1939. She passed on September 20, 2026, in Las Cruces, NM. She grew up mostly in Nebraska, graduating from High School at Lincoln in 1957, and Nebraska Wesleyan in 1962.

She married William Wade Jones in 1964 in Topeka, KS. She taught Elementary School in Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico. She was a resident of New Mexico since 1965.

She is survived by her husband and 2 children, Alishia Sue and William Michael Jones. She was a long-time member of University United Methodist Church in Las Cruces, NM.

She loved to travel and visited all 50 United States and all but 4 state capitol buildings. She also visited Puerto Rico, 8 Canadian Provinces, Israel and Egypt.

She loved to talk and would strike up a conversation with anyone! She really enjoyed the companionship of the Red Hat Ladies group she belonged to.

She is dearly missed. Services will be held at a later date.
