Obituary

SOCORRO RUIZ QUIÑONES, passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2024, at the age of 93. Born December 7, 1930, to Pedro Ruiz and Socorro Alonzo Ruiz in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She married Lubin G. Quiñones on July 3, 1955. They welcomed three sons, Lubin M., Marcos R., and Miguel R. Socorro and her late husband, Lubin, always wished for a daughter and later in life informally adopted Lilia Lopez, who they loved and cherished as their chosen daughter.
A devout Catholic and parishioner, Socorro rarely missed Sunday mass at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. She sat in the front pew on the right side of the sanctuary for years.
Socorro was a happy and creative cook, insisting that love was her favorite ingredient. She made traditional biscochitos for special occasions and as gifts for friends and family. She established a family tradition with her sons and grandchildren cooking dozens of tamales during the Christmas season. Embroidering countless doilies, kitchen towels and pillowcases over the years Socorro took pride in a job well done.
A joyful person who loved music, singing, dancing, dressing well and spending time with loved ones, Socorro valued helping others and was generous with her time and spirit.
Survived by son, Marcos Quiñones (Ophelia), chosen daughter, Lilia Lopez (Fernando); grandchildren Stephanie Quiñones, Micheal Quiñones, Sierra Watkins-Quiñones, Mason Quiñones; great grandson, Ryder Olmstead; sister, Josefina "Chepis" Cuellar; brother, Oscar Ruiz; several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her son, Lubin M. Quiñones passed away thirty-four days after Socorro on November 26, 2024.
Preceded in death by husband, Lubin G. Quiñones; son, Miguel R. Quiñones; parents, Pedro, and Socorro Ruiz; brothers, Roberto, Pedro, Ricardo, Alfredo, Manuel, and Jorge; sisters Maria, Magdalena, Elvira, Lucia, and Cruz.
