Socorro Enriquez Varela, 92, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024. She was born on April 11, 1932, in Namiquipa, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jose Varela and Marina Reyes Varela, and was one of seven children. Socorro is survived by her sister Palma Varela and her brother Ramon Varela.

Socorro was the beloved mother of 16 children, with 10 surviving her and six who have passed on before her. She was a devoted grandmother to 39 grandchildren, great-grandmother to 61, and great-great-grandmother to 19. A woman of great faith in God, Socorro carried her pain and suffering with incredible strength, inspiring all who knew her. She was not only a mother to her own children but also to many of her grandchildren, offering them the same love and care. Her love for God and her family was at the heart of everything she did. Socorro's exceptional sense of humor and attentive nature made her a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her.

Her family and friends will gather to honor her memory with a rosary on September 12, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapel, located at 300 Boutz Rd, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88005. A mass will be held on September 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, located at 1327 N Miranda St, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88005.

Socorro's legacy of love, faith, and humor will continue to live on in the hearts of her large and loving family.

Nació el 11 de abril de 1932 en Namiquipa, Chihuahua, México, hija de José Varela y Marina Reyes Varela, y fue una de siete hijos. A Socorro le sobreviven su hermana Palma Varela y su hermano Ramón Varela.
