Shanti Hardyal, 75, of Las Cruces, New Mexico went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday October 10th, 2025 following a lengthy illness due to complications from open-heart surgery.

Shanti was born on October 8th, 1950 in British Guyana, South America to Sonny and Irene Hardyal.  She was the fourth of eight children.

Shanti had a courageous and adventurous spirit.  At the age of 19, she left home to begin her nursing studies in London, England.  She made many friends, traveled to see the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the tulips in Amsterdam, and all the iconic British landmarks.  Most of all she found her vocation: caring for newborns and maternity patients.  Along with her RN license, Shanti became a practicing midwife and delivered many beautiful babies.

Her next adventure took her to Fort Worth, Texas.  She'd heard that everything is bigger in Texas and found out that it's true!  It was there she tried chips and guacamole for the first time; she also learned to drive, and went to a rodeo!

Her next adventure took her to Silver Spring, Maryland.  Once again, she made so many dear friends and married Peter Giovannini.

From there, they headed west for the next adventures in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where they welcomed their beloved daughter, Natalie.  As Shanti built her life in Las Cruces, she became an established nurse at Memorial Medical Center. She gave tender and thorough care to her patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care and maternal services department.  She found her church home at Calvary Baptist Church where she enjoyed volunteering in the library, kitchen, and greeting at the front door.  Most of all she loved spending time with loved ones and family, especially time with her daughter, son-in-law, Michael, and most precious granddaughter, Lauren.

Throughout all these years she made many lifelong friends and shared love, laughter, and life with all she knew.

Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 S. Locust St, Las Cruces, N.M. on Monday October 20th, 2025 at 10 am. Please stay and join us for lunch immediately following the service.
