Salvador Garcia Jr., 97, peacefully passed into the Lord's arms on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Desert Peaks Assisted Living in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Salvador was born in Garfield, New Mexico to Salvador Garcia and Lucia Garcia on June 2, 1926. He grew up on the family farm, raised a family in California where he worked at the Cook Belting Co. in San Francisco and after his retirement, he returned to Garfield and later moved to Las Cruces. Salvador was a devout catholic and a friend to all who knew him. He was an avid sports fan (49ers) and was always ready to join his brothers and friends on hunting and fishing trips.
Salvador served in the United States Army from September 1944 to June 1946 during WWII where he fought for our freedom in Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his son, David Garcia; and daughter, Kathy Levendoski from Sacramento, California; Arlene Boday from Walsenburg, Colorado; sisters, Estella Castillo (Cipriano); Linda Misquez (Ralph); Mary Helen Garcia; brothers, Larry Garcia (Rosemary); Miguel Garcia; Rev. Samuel Garcia; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Salvador and Lucia Garcia; his son Salvador III; daughter Marie; spouses Mamie; Frances; Irna (partner); brothers Luis; Willie; Eliseo; sisters Isabel; Lilia; Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Michael Garcia, Jerome Garcia, Justin Garcia, Joe Castillo, Richard Cereceres, Alex Boday.
Visitation for Salvador will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 East Boutz Road, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. A prayer vigil will begins at 6:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 9:30am at Holy Cross Church,1327 North Miranda Street. Salvador will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
