Obituary

SAL ANTHONY BETANCOURT JR., born December 11, 1989, to Sal Anthony Betancourt Sr. and Elsa Abad, also known as "Flaco" throughout Las Cruces, passed away November 17, 2025, at the age of 35. His sudden passing was deeply heartbreaking for family and friends alike.

Growing up, Sal was an accomplished athlete who excelled in baseball, football, and basketball, earning countless awards and championships. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.

Sal was charming, helpful, and had a way of lighting up any room. He was quick with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Even in his struggles, he never doubted his salvation or the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He loved spending time with family, fishing, camping, coaching kids, and making people laugh. Above all, his greatest pride and joy was always his children.

He leaves behind his daughters Aniah, Arial, and Alaiah; his son Andre; and his companion Kassandra. He is also survived by his mother Elsa; father Sal; stepmother Precilla Bustillos Betancourt; brother Brandon Ray Betancourt (Desiree); stepbrother Sal Angel Orona (Ayanna); stepsisters Shylean Morales (Jesus) and Yesenia Orona; grandfather Lorenzo Abad Sr.; uncle Lorenzo Abad Jr.; grandmother Millie Saldana Mata; godparents "Nino" Johnny Peña (Dyann) and "Nina" Priscilla Betancourt Chavez (Issac); as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored him. Sal was preceded in death by his grandfather Sal "Coty" Betancourt and Grandmother Maria Abad, who now welcome him with open arms.
