On August 11, 2024, Russell Alonzo Diaz, loving and compassionate brother and uncle, as well as trusted friend passed away in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Russell is survived by his siblings, Michelle (and Gerry) Allen, Katrina (and Kenneth) Castillo, and Arnold (and Cyndi) Diaz. He will also be fondly remembered by his nephews, David and Nathan Sanchez, and Avery and Tra Allen. Great nephews and niece, Kyrie, Zylis, and Leia will forever have their guardian angel.
Russell spent many years employed with Radio Shack, this was much more than a job to him. It was a love of electronics, gizmos and gadgets while providing a space to be of help to others. Over the past several years, he was employed by the New Mexico Department of Transportation as a Compliance Officer.
Russell was a man of few wants but many words and talents. There was never a project he didn't want to help with, a puzzle he didn't want to solve or obliviously nonsense news to share. He loved pets, especially his cat Rodney who decided he was going to make Russell his human by strolling into his casita one day and never leaving. Russell took great interest in anything space or science related and tremendous joy in spending time with his family.
In the humblest of ways, Russell's last request was to be a donor. He continues to make impactful differences to others through the gifts he was able to provide.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pauline Diaz as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
Honorary pallbearers are David Sanchez, Avery Allen, Tra Allen, Nathan Sanchez, Gerry Allen and Kenneth Castillo.
A visitation for Russell will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 East Boutz Road. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1pm. Russell will be laid to rest with his parents at a later date.
