ROSENDO "CHENDO" RODRIGUEZ, 74, of Mesquite, New Mexico, entered peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on April 18, 1952, in Mesquite to Velia Rodriguez Alvarez.
"Chendo," as he was lovingly known by family and friends, found joy in farming, time spent outdoors, and most of all, being surrounded by his family. His quiet strength, kind heart, and deep love for those closest to him will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Rosendo Rodriguez Jr., April Rodriguez-Esparza, Irene Rodriguez, Richard Michael Rodriguez, and Diana Rodriguez; MaryLou Rodriguez, the mother of his children; his mother, Velia Alvarez; his siblings, Yolanda Esparza (Ronnie), Johnny Alvarez (Tina), Felix Alvarez (Minerva), Martin Alvarez (Cathy), Ramon Alvarez (Sylvia), Jose Alvarez (Trish), and Belia Alvarez (Curtis); along with his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lorena Herrera; his maternal grandparents, Hilario and Maria Rodriguez; and numerous cherished family members who welcomed him into eternal life.
Visitation for Chendo will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Mesquite, New Mexico. The Holy Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at 11AM.
Serving as casket bearers will be his brothers, Johnny, Felix, Martin, Ramon, and Jose, along with his son, Richard.
At the family's request, cremation will follow the services.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to his granddaughter, Savanna Herrera; uncle, Freddie Rodriguez; and dear friend, Robert Madrid, for their constant love, support, compassion, and devoted care shown to Chendo throughout this time.
"Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace." Amen.
