On April 5, 2024 85 year old Roberto "Bobby" Vielma Sr.entered eternal rest surrounded by his loved ones. He was born August 22, 1938 in Tortugas, NM to Adela and Francisco Vielma.

He was born and raised in Tortugas,the oldest of 4 kids. He got to play on Tortugas Red Caps baseball team with his friends and family members., and he developed a love for auto mechanics before entering into the Army in 1957. After serving in the Army as a mechanic he then worked at Whites Auto Store, after Whites he worked for LCPS at Mayfield, then finally working and retiring from Las Cruces High School. He was a member of the church choir and the Tortugas cemetery crew. He loved watching the Dodgers and loved helping raise his grand and great grandchildren even more. Thank you Dad.

Those left to carry on his memory include his beloved wife of 58 years Otilia Vielma, son Roberto Vielma Jr., two daughters Terry Vielma and Patsy Mirabal, and brother David Vielma (Silvia). He also leaves 10 grandchildren: Paul, Mariah, Jesse, Mariah, Nazario, Jisella, Gabriel, Bryanna, Jacob, Luke and six great grandchildren Josiah, Greg, Ezra, Everest, Jax, Sage..

He was preceded in death by his parents Adela and Francisco, sisters Corinna Nevarez and Teresa Toby Vielma, and grandson Johnny Trujillo.

A prayer vigil will be held on Saturday April 13, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 3600 Paroquia Street. Visitations will begin at 1:00 P.M.  Recitation of the holy rosary will begin at 2:00 P.M.. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 P.M. Interment and rite of committal will conclude at Tortugas Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Serving as casket bearers include Patrick Mirabal, Paul Mirabal, Gabriel Vielma, Nazario Vielma, Josiah Vielma and Greg Vielma. Honorary casket bearers include Robert Vielma Jr. David Vielma, Jacob Vielma, Luke Vielma, Jisella Vielma, Mariah Martelly, Mariah Vielma and the Tortugas Cemetery Crew.
