Obituary

Robert B. Telles, 77, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in his home in Sahuarita, Arizona, on May 25, 2026. Known affectionately as Bob, Bobby, and "Brother," he was surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on August 15, 1948, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Victor Sarabia Telles and Lucia "Lucy" Barela Telles, Robert came from humble beginnings and lived a life defined by hard work, service, devotion to God, and an unwavering love for his family.

A trailblazer within his family, Robert, was the first in his immediate family to attend college. Through determination and a commitment to education, he earned both his undergraduate degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from New Mexico State University. His accomplishments opened doors not only for himself but also inspired future generations of his family to pursue higher education and strive for excellence. Continuing the Aggie tradition he cherished, three of his children proudly graduated from New Mexico State University as Aggie alumni.

One of Robert's most cherished experiences was his time at New Mexico State University, where he was a member of the Aggie basketball program, under Coach Lou Henson, during one of the most celebrated eras in school history.  He remained a devoted Aggie supporter throughout his life and cherished the friendships and memories formed during those years.

Robert dedicated much of his professional life to public service through long and distinguished careers in finance and procurement with both the Las Cruces Public Schools and the City of Las Cruces. In these roles, he earned the respect of colleagues and community members through his integrity, professionalism, sound judgment, and commitment to serving others. Throughout his career, he was known as a dependable leader, a thoughtful mentor, and a man whose word could always be trusted.

Above all, Robert's relationship with God was the foundation of his life. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, he lived his beliefs through acts of kindness, generosity, humility, wisdom, and compassion. He worked diligently to raise his children with Christian values, teaching them to trust in the Lord and to treat others with love and respect. Robert never missed an opportunity to share God's love through encouragement, prayer, and service to those around him.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Lucy Telles, and his older brother, Victor S. Telles Jr. He is survived by his younger brother Willie (Louisa), with whom he shared a special bond of brotherhood filled with laughter, friendship, and countless cherished memories. The joy they found in each other's company was evident to all who knew them.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; five children and their spouses, Matias Telles (Tessa), Maritza Gomez (Joshua), Erica Montoya (Carlos), Estrella Telles, and Desiree Miranda; as well as 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by numerous extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Robert will be remembered for his warm smile, steady guidance, generous heart, love for family, devotion to God, and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he nurtured, the values he instilled, and the many people blessed to know him.
