It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of Robert Flores, 80, on July 12, 2026.
Robert was born in La Mesa, New Mexico on September 30, 1945. He is preceded in death by his parents, Onofre Flores and Socorro Flores, brothers, Antonio (Tony) Flores (Maggie Flores) Rodolfo (Rudy) Flores (Anita Flores), Alfredo (Fred) Flores, sisters, Anita Montoya Applellzoller, and Juanita (Jennie) Flores, sister-in-law, Lupe Campos Nussbaum (Alan Nussbaum).
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Martha Olga Carrillo Campos Flores, son, Jerry M. Flores, daughter, Martha Isabel Flores-Olivas and son-in-law Israel Jude Olivas, son, Ernie Campos, grandchildren, Sasha De La Cruz, Jordan Flores-Olivas, and "his Princess," J'Dynn Alyssa Flores-Olivas. Great grandchildren, Maximus D. Kusserow and Mateo M. Tarin. Twin brother, Ruben Flores (Gerry Gordan). Brother-in-laws, Antonio (Tony) Campos, whom Robert considered more as his adopted brother, Angel Campos (Cecelia Campos), Eddie Campos (Nancy Campos), and sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Lulu) Campos. Sisters, Margarita Flores Almaguer, Florinda (Corina) Flores Barajas, and Amelia Flores Campbell. God children, Charmene Sanchez, Danny Flores, Ursula Campos Hernandez, and Noelle Chavez along with numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert is a proud alumnus of the Gadsden High School Panthers. Upon graduation he joined the Army National Guard. After his service he began his career at Las Cruces Abstract & Title Company in 1965. His initial positions were in that of copying documents, title searchers, and closing officer. Through his continued hard work and dedication, he ultimately became President of the company.
Robert played golf, softball, and bowled, in addition to enjoying fishing. Robert spent years of dedicated service to the Las Cruces, La Mesa, and Tortugas communities with his volunteer memberships in such organizations as President of the Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce Conquistadores, the Sertoma Club, President of The Whole Enchilada Fiesta Committee, The Eagles Club, President of the Parents Board of the Onate High School Silverettes, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta.
Robert enjoyed spending time with family. Lovingly referred to as "Gampa" by his grandchildren. His hobbies included collecting coins and in creating beautiful pieces of furniture and artwork through woodwork. He was especially known for his ornate walking and hiking staffs he crafted by shaving, carving, and painting the stalks of the yucca plant, which he made for several family and friends. For decades, Robert carried his trusted handmade walking and hiking staff at the annual Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta and pilgrimage to Tortugas Mountain in honor of his parents. He participated and volunteered in various other community service and organizations during retirement, along with assisting anyone that asked.
Robert Flores will be remembered as a devoted, kind, compassionate, gentle person, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His shining soul and contagious laughter would lighten up anybody's mood. His hardworking, yet lighthearted demeanor is a testament to the life he led. He was the type of man that planted seeds of trees he would never get to sit under. May his soul rest peacefully with our Father in his Holy Kingdom. A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in his honor.
