With a mixture of fond memories and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of 68-year-old Richard M. Lara on August 30, 2024. Born August 4, 1956, Richard was a man of contradictions: Fiercely ornery but with a heart as giving as they come.
Born to Isidoro and Eva Lara in Silver City, New Mexico, Richard was known for his stubbornness and giving nature, always quick to help anyone. He had a knack for keeping everyone on their toes with his cantankerous charm and humor, but behind that tough exterior was a deeply generous and kind soul. He was always the first to offer help to all those in need, often without asking or expecting anything in return. Richard always looked out for the welfare of others while placing the needs of others before his own. Richard was a faithful believer of Jesus Christ and enjoyed going to church.
A devoted husband to his late wife, Irma. Richard was a proud father of two daughters, Dolores (Gabriel) Altamirano of Mimbres, New Mexico, and Rosanne Lara of El Paso, Texas. One Son, Richard J Lara (Nancy) of San Antonio, Texas, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his brothers, Roy (Helena), Billy (Jenny), David (Clorinda), and Lawrence; his sisters, Loretta and Carol. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidoro and Eva Lara, Sister Barbara, and brothers, Robert and Augustine.
Cremation has taken place. In honoring Richard's wishes, no formal services will be held but will be laid to rest at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City, New Mexico. Instead, the family encourages all who knew him to remember him in their own way – by sharing a story, raising a glass, or simply holding his memory close to their hearts. Richard valued simplicity and lived life on his own terms, and we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace and now with our Heavenly Father. A special thank you to the Estrada Family for the care given to Richard in his final years.
