RICHARD THOMAS VASQUEZ, affectionately known as "Dicky" to all who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully at his home in El Paso, Texas on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 68. Born September 5, 1956, in Anthony, Texas to Emilia Escajeda and Tomas Vasquez, Dicky grew up with a strong sense of family, community, and grit. He attended Las Cruces High School, where he forged lifelong friendships and began shaping the path of a hardworking and generous life.

After high school, Dicky hit the open road as a cross-country truck driver for Roadrunner, embracing the freedom of the highway and the stories it carried. Later, he served the City of Las Cruces Water Department, contributing to the infrastructure of the town he held dear. His journey then led him to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent over two decades working for the road department and as a security guard in the bustling world of casinos. His presence was steady, reliable, and always marked by a warm smile and sharp wit.

A proud and passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dicky never missed a game and wore his black and gold with unwavering loyalty. His love for football was matched only by his love for his family and friends.

Eventually, Dicky returned to Las Cruces, continuing his work in security both there and in El Paso. His dedication to service and his ability to connect with people made him a beloved figure in every community he touched. Dicky will be remembered for his humor, his resilience, and his deep love for those around him. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the laughter echoed, and the hearts he warmed.

Those left to mourn his passing include his loving family, parents, Tomas and Emilia Vasquez of Las Cruces; daughter, Jessica Vasquez of Chicago, IL; brother, Stevie Vasquez (Kathy) of Virginia and three sisters, Yvonne and Nanci Vasquez both from Las Cruces and Alice Schubert (Mark) of Denver, CO.

In 2016 Dicky married the love of his life, Maria Guadalupe Guerra and embraced the love of her four children, Brian Vanegas of Topeka, KS: Daniel Vanegas and Liz Vanegas both from Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua, MX and Brenda Toro of El Paso. He was preceded in death by his son, Javier Richard Vasquez; maternal grandparents, Jose Maria and Juanita Escajeda and paternal grandparents, Pablo and Margarita Vasquez.

Visitation for Dicky will begin at 9:30 AM Monday, August 25, 2025, at St. Albert the Great Newman Parish, 2615 S. Solano with the Prayer Vigil at 10AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery 760 S. Compress Road where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
