RENE PEREZ GARCIA, age 71, was called home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2025. He was born on April 14, 1953, in Ajo, Arizona, to Augustine Sanchez Garcia and Etelvina Ortiz Perez. He was one of four children Erma, Augie, and Sylvia. Rene's life was a testament to faith, integrity, and selflessness. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic, beginning his career at just 15 years old with a local newspaper in Ajo. He later joined Phelps Dodge and Chino Mines as a heavy equipment operator, dedicating over 20 years to his craft.
Rene's love for his family was unwavering. He had two children, Stacey Rene Garcia and James Monroe Garcia, with his high school sweetheart, Jenny Earp, during their eight-year marriage. In 1981, he married Brenda Spivey Garcia, and together they shared 40 years of love and partnership. They had one daughter, Shavonne Amber Garcia, and Rene lovingly raised Brenda's daughter, Stefanie Alisa Garcia, as his own from the age of one. He also adopted and raised Stefanie's sons, Isaiah Daniel Rivera, and Jayden Michael Garcia. Rene's legacy is defined by his deep commitment to his family and the values he instilled in them. Known for his wisdom and thoughtful advice, he taught his children the importance of integrity, resilience, and kindness. He approached life's challenges with courage and grace, inspiring all who knew him.
Rene is survived by his children: Stacey Villanueva (Raul) of Silver City, NM, and their children RJ, Aaden, and Tristan; James Garcia (Josie) of Phoenix, AZ, and their children Nicholas, Angel, Matthew, DJ, Ariza, and Vinay; Shavonne Garcia of Las Cruces, NM, and her children Grey and Dominicio Placencio; Isaiah Rivera (Candace Martinez) of Las Cruces; and Jayden Garcia of Las Cruces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Sylvia; and his daughter Stefanie Garcia of Silver City.
Rene's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy of love and integrity continue to guide us all.
