Obituary

It is with a profound sadness that the family of Priscilla Mae Provencio, 84, a life-long resident of Las Cruces, announces her passing on January 9, 2026, after a brief illness.

Priscilla was born on January 12, 1941, in Las Cruces, to Reymundo (Ray)and Elisa Alvarez Apodaca.  She graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1959 and soon thereafter, married her high school sweetheart, Gilbert Provencio, with whom she parented three sons, Ronnie, Randy, and Ryan.

During their marriage, Gilbert and Priscilla made Las Cruces their home, where they raised their three children, who attended the Las Cruces public schools, and all of which graduated from New Mexico State University and Arizona State University with degrees in engineering.

Since their marriage's early years, Priscilla was a devoted wife to Gilbert and dedicated herself as a mother raising her three sons.

Throughout her life, Priscilla was known to her friends and family as a proud and tireless parent, and as such, devoted herself to not only raising her children but enthusiastically supporting them in school sports and in their other school and extracurricular activities.  When her three sons married and had children of their own, she then became just as devoted to her grandchildren.

As her sons' work eventually took them to jobs in different parts of the country, Priscilla, as a mother and grandmother, relished every moment she spent with her sons' families during her visits to them or their visits to her home, doting every time on her beloved grandchildren.

Having attended Holy Cross School, a Catholic school affiliated with St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Las Cruces during her early years of school, she was a devout Catholic throughout her life, and later, lived her life with an enduring faith not only in God but in her sons and her extended family and friends.

A dedicated and loyal member of the parish at St. Genevieve, she continued her religious devotion to church activities and especially attending Mass every Sunday at the church, participating in the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, receiving communion. She considered her strong faith and worship an important part of her life.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her loving parents, Reymundo (Ray) and Elisa Apodaca, a sister, Juliette Altamirano, and two brothers, Raymond and Jerry Apodaca, and her husband, Gilbert, the father of Priscilla's three children.

She is survived by her three children, Gilbert (Ronnie), Randy (and his spouse, Kerry), and Ryan (and his spouse, Liz); her brother, Rudy Apodaca; 6 grandchildren, Aydan Duran Provencio, Lauren Lynass (Sam), Lyndsay Centrowitz (Matthew), Aaron, Elijah, and Ezra Provencio; and 3 great-grandchildren, Rowan and Reese Lynass and Luka Centrowitz.  Also surviving her are many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, several great-nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Priscilla's life will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 9:30 am at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 South Espina, followed by inurnment at Hillcrest Cemetery, 5140 West Picacho .
