PHILIP RYAN OLONA DECKER, (AKA The Legend), a lifelong resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away suddenly on September 19, 2023. Born September 15, 1977, he had just turned 46 years old. His sudden passing left his family and friends devastated and shocked. He was a beloved father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend. Philip was employed as a journeyman plumber gasfitter and just like his Grandpa Montaño was able to "fix" anything as he was a very intelligent and resourceful individual. Philip will be remembered for his beautiful smile, great sense of humor, giving personality and friendly disposition. He had a marvelous storytelling ability. Most stories were true and had happened to him and some, although serious, were hilarious. He was an incredibly talented individual who loved working with his hands and helping others in need. He is now residing in the kingdom of heaven with our Lord and Savior and is no longer hurting or in pain. Until we meet again, Son, you will forever be by our side and always remembered. Those left to mourn his passing include three sons, Jonathyn Olona (Kaylee), Uriah Olona and Mark Navarro (Karisma); his best friend and mother of two of his children, Jennifer Dolan; his parents, Elizabeth and Tim Decker; two brothers, Andrew Decker (Ashley), niece Paisley and nephew Kason of Deming; and Christopher Decker, nieces Kennedy and Kaya also of Las Cruces; his loving grandchildren, Saylor Jade Olona and Koa Lionel Navarro; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and all of Las Cruces. Philip was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfonso, and Esperanza Montaño; paternal grandparents, Charles and Margaret Decker, and Tony and Judy Olona. A prayer vigil will be held at Baca's Funeral Chapel on Monday October 9, 2023, from 6-7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday October 10, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda Street with The Reverend Theophine Okafor celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. A Celebration of Life will be held after Interment at The Home Builders Association, 2825 N. Main Street, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Serving as casket bearers will be Andrew Decker, Christopher Decker, Erik Parker, Anthony Montaño, Brian Claar, and Michael Teitsworth. Honorary bearers will be Jonathyn Olona and Mark Navarro.
