Obituary

On August 20, 2024, our beloved father, Pedro "Pete" Marquez, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the warmth and love of his devoted wife of 64 years, his cherished daughters, and close family members at the age of 86. Pete was a man blessed with a large and loving family, including seven daughters, 39 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, each one holding a special place in his heart.

Pete served our country in the Army, an experience that he held with pride throughout his life. He also enjoyed his time as a florist, bringing beauty and joy to others through his work, and later contributed to the community by working for the city of Las Cruces.

Pete was known to all as a generous and kind soul, always ready to lend a helping hand. His warmth and friendship touched the lives of many, making him a true friend to all who knew him. A proud and passionate Raiders fan, Pete's greatest joy came from gathering his family together, filling their home with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife, Nestora "Mary" Marquez; his daughters Socorro "Cori" Marquez Baca (Louie Baca), Patsy Murphy (Eddie Murphy), Mary Irene Lewallen (Matthew Malone), Laura Belmontez (Tito Belmontez), Martha Elena Woods (Art Woods), Cynthia Rubio (Santiago "Jimmy" Rubio), and Alisa Marquez Barrio (James Barrio); his sister Isabel Aguirre; his brother Raymundo Marquez (Terry Marquez); and many nieces and nephews.

Pete's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
