Paul Anthony Barrera, 40 of Las Cruces, NM passed away March 7, 2025 peacefully at his home and was welcomed into heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Paul was born in Carlsbad, NM to John "Elmo" Barrera and Beatrice Cardona Barrera. He was the baby of the family. Paul was hardworking, witty, and would give a friend his own shirt off his back. He cared for his mother relentlessly during her last days. He loved the simple things in life such as his dog Buddy, outdoor activities, cracking jokes, BBQs, fireworks on the 4th of July, streaming shows, UFC, and was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Paul worked at NMSU and the City of Las Cruces as a maintenance technician. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Paul is survived by daughter, Alyssa Torres-Galvez; siblings, Michelle Barrera-Apodaca (Isaac); Julie Estrada (Steve); Stephanie Barrera; John Barrera; nephews, Jacob Barrera; Steven Estrada; Joseph Estrada; nieces, Alexandria Apodaca; Kaya Apodaca; Jaleigh Colter; Jordan Colter; Jozlynn Colter; uncles, aunts, cousins, great nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, John "Elmo" Barrera; Beatrice Cardona Barrera; sister, Valerie Nicole Barrera; grandparents, Antonio Cardona; Josefa Cardona; Toribio "Toby" Barrera; Jesusita "Susie" Barrera; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Prayer Vigil for Paul will be on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 7pm at Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 East Boutz Road. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 10 am at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, 2615 South Solano Drive. Cremation will follow services, and a private inurnment will be held at a later date.
