It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ophelia Dominguez Dickson on May 25, 2025. Ophelia was born June 8,1933 in Las Cruces, NM to Enrique S. and Emma D. Narvaez. She attended NMSU in Las Cruces, NM where she received a master's degree in education. She was an elementary school teacher for 17 years. She met her husband, John at White Sands Proving Grounds where she worked as a secretary. They married in 1958. They had three children. Patricia A. Dickson of Albuquerque, NM, John M. Dickson, deceased, and Thomas A. Dickson, deceased. She is survived by her siblings, Mary N. Rosales of Chandler, AZ, Juliette E. Narvaez of Marina Del Rey, CA, Dolores A. Narvaez of Anaheim, CA, and Henry F. Narvaez of Albuquerque, N. M. Other survivors are: Pandra Richie, daughter-in-law, of Williamsburg, VA. John Brandon Dickson, grandson of Willard, NC, Remington Wade Dickson, grandson, of Durham, N. C. and his wife, Monya. Great grandchildren Scarlet Mae Dickson and John Michael Dickson II of Willard, NC. Other survivors include many extended family members.
Throughout her life, Philly was blessed with many friends. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and traveling. Most of all she loved being with her family. She was a member of the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Tortugas, NM. She was also a member of La Corporacion of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Tortugas, where she made many additional friends. In 2013, Philly and John moved from Las Cruces to Albuquerque, NM to be closer to their daughter, Patricia.
A prayer vigil will be held on Monday June 9, 2025 at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. Visitations will be from 04:30 P.M. to 05:30 P.M. and Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 06:00 P.M. The Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday June 10, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3600 Parroquia Street. Internment and Rite of Committal will conclude at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W. Picacho.
A reception with food will be held at La Casa de Comida in Tortugas following the burial services-please plan to attend.
Serving as casket bearers will be John Brandon Dickson, Remington Wade Dickson, Sal N. Rosales, Jr., Anthony H. Buckman, James B. Buckman, Patrick L. Narvaez, Patrick Jeremiah Narvaez and Daniel Crowner.
The family would like to thank the members of the Tortugas Pueblo for the generous gift of their time and effort. In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a contribution in Ophelia's name to the Corporation of Our Lady of Guadalupe, P.O. Box 164, Mesilla Park, NM 88047.
