NEMECIO RAMIREZ CHAVEZ, age 81, of Las Cruces entered eternal life on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 19, 1943, in La Mesa, NM to Maria Teresa de Jesus Ramirez and Angel H. Chavez. He served his country honorably in the United States Army; after the Military he went into Law Enforcement. In the early 80's he became Under Sheriff of Doña Ana County, where he knew so many people that he enjoyed helping. Nemecio was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th degree Knight, and The American Legion. One of his greatest moments in life was when he played in the movie, "The Bite" where he met and became good friends with the actor, Jamie Farr and enjoyed having breakfast with him every day on set.
Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, of 59 years, Herminda Romero Chavez; son, Nemecio Chavez (Yihong); daughter, Julia Ann Chavez-Rodriguez (Joe Vince) all from Las Cruces; brother, Ruben Chavez (Raquel) of El Paso, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Elvira Adams, and Ester Alvarez; 5 brothers, Alfredo, Ruben, Lalo, and Kelly Chavez and Jimmy Ramirez, as well as other family members.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina with the Prayer Vigil at 10:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with The Reverend Alejandro Reyes, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. Military honors will be accorded by the New Mexico Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment.
