MILTON M. SNODGRASS, 83, of Las Cruces passed away August 13, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1931, in Linesville, Pennsylvania and grew up on a small dairy farm. Milton graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1951 and married Jean Seiders the same weekend. After service in the US Air Force, he attended graduate school majoring in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University remaining there on the faculty. In 1967, Milton went to California State Polytechnic University for five years to develop an academic program in International Agriculture. In 1972, he came to New Mexico State University in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business, retiring in 1990. During his career he worked overseas some 10 years building Agricultural Economics programs at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, the University of Ibadan in Ibadan, Nigeria, and the University of Zambia, in Lusaka, Zambia. He also served as an advisor in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to the Yemen Arab Republic. His first love was teaching and counseling. After retirement, he worked every year as a volunteer assisting low income families and the elderly with preparation of their federal and state tax returns, first for AARP and then with the Community Action Agency for a total of 20 years. He is survived by his wife Jean; two children; a daughter, Linda Mattox-Wright (Chet) of Las Cruces; a son, Ronald Snodgrass (Melissa); two granddaughters, Kaitlen and Jessica of Denver, Colorado; a brother, Larry Snodgrass (Carole) of Massilon, Ohio. Milton is also survived by two nieces, Karen Dukovich (Randy) of Frankemuth, Minnesota, and Lyn Donaldson (Matt) of Indiana, Pennsylvania; a nephew, Ken Snodgrass (Esther) of Baltimore, Maryland. A Memorial Service to celebrate Milton's life will be in the chapel at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 225 W. Griggs Avenue on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Milton to Heifer International c/o St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 225 W. Griggs Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88005, with the memo "heifer."
