MIGUEL "MIKE" CHAVEZ FERNANDEZ, 90, lifelong resident of La Union, NM entered eternal life on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. He was born March 17, 1933, to Miguel and Josephina Fernandez, he was one of thirteen children.

Miguel was most commonly known as "Mike or Cury" to most. He was the best grandfather, dad, brother, and friend to all who knew him. Many people remember him as a custodian for the Gadsden Independent School District which he was employed for over 30 years and then retired. He loved to go to the casino and gamble on the slot machines, in early years he was the flea market guru. Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife "Manuela" and grandchildren, they loved going to Las Vegas and Laughlin, his favorite color was green. Grandpa Mike loved sweets "maranitos", donuts and ice cream. He will be remembered for his kind heart, congeniality, and loving soul.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Manuela Fernandez and his two sons David and Charlie Fernandez. Mike is survived by his remaining children Mary Lou Rodriguez and Victor Fernandez of La Union, NM. Other survivors include: Rosendo Rodriguez, April Rodriguez-
Esparza (Mike), Irene Rodriguez, Richard Rodriguez (Shavon), Diana Rodriguez (Noel), Joshua Fernandez and Sybil Fernandez. Mike had 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to offer anyone who loved him to come join in the celebration of life.

Visitation for Mike will begin at 10AM Friday, April 28, 2023, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 1320 Mercantil Avenue in La Union with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter. At his request cremation will follow and Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date.

Serving as casket bearers will be Rosendo Rodriguez, Richard Rodriguez, Elijah Rodriguez, Matthew Rodriguez, Noel Saenz, Michael Esparza, Joshua Fernandez, and RJ Lira.
