It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Micaela Chavarria Almaguer, 83. Mickie, as she was fondly known passed away on August 24th, 2024, in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by her family.
Mickie was born September 30, 1940, in Filmore, NM to Sabas and Leonarda Chavarria. Mickie was employed and retired from The Salvation Army. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to music, knitting, puzzles and crosswords. Her talents in the kitchen were beyond words, her tortillas and biscocho cookies were the best. Leaving her special recipe passed on to her daughter.
Mickie is survived by her children Mary Lou Bustamante and Eddie Chavarria. Son in law Oscar Bustamante. Grandchildren Oscar Eric Bustamante, John Adrian Bustamante, and Barbara Bustamante. 8 Great-Grandchildren, Jonathan, Kandice, Oscar, Aubree, Amarae, Adrienne, Alexa Bustamante, and Junior Gonzalez. Three brothers Gilbert Chavarria (Elizabeth), Joe Chavarria (Jenny), and Roddie Chavarria (Norma Castaneda). Three sisters Yolanda Parra, Delia Hidalgo (Jesus), and Cecilia Martinez. Numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sabas and Leonarda Chavarria; grandson Lawrence Bustamante, sisters Lucia Chavarria, Felicitas Chavarria, and Romie Montez, Nephews Leonard Chavarria and Reynaldo Roddie Chavarria, Niece Erika Lynnette Chavarria. Brother-in-laws Robert Parra, Frank Montez, David Martinez, Johnny Espana, and family friend Mari Morales.
Serving as casket bearers will be Oscar Eric Bustamante, John Adrian Bustamante, Jonathan Bustamante, Oscar Daniel Bustamante, Junior Gonzalez, Eddie Chavarria, Miguel Parra, and Gene Espana. Honorary pallbearers are Amarae, Kandice, Adrienne, Alexa, and Aubree Bustamante.
I thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and the days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories, and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I'll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 6-7pm for the public at Baca's Funeral Chapels 300 East Boutz Road. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 12, 2024, starting at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe 3600 Paroquia St. Mickie will be laid to rest at San Albino Cemetery.
