Matilda C. Diaz, 101, of La Mesa, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday May 24, 2025.

She was born in La Mesa to her parents, John Corpening and Vicenta Provencio Corpening. Matilda found great joy in caring for her family and tending to life on the farm. She especially loved cooking and spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment with them.

Matilda is survived by her daughter, Linda Diaz; her son, Johnny Diaz; and her granddaughters, Denise Warren, Michelle Tiscareno, and Krisiann Rivera. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren: Brandi Medina, Avina Rivera, Samuel Warren, JD Warren, and Ariel Tiscareno.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Corpening and Vicenta Provencio Corpening; her brother, John Corpening Jr.; her beloved husband, Jose Diaz; and her beautiful daughter, Joan Diaz Jernigan.

Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Diaz, Krisiann Rivera, Mario Tiscareno, James Warren, JD Warren, and Samuel Warren.

Matilda's life was a testament to love, strength, and devotion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation for Matilda will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 starting at 1pm at San Jose Catholic Church, 353 Josephine St, La Mesa, NM. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2pm. Matilda will be laid to rest at San Jose Catholic Cemetery.
