Mary Celia Alvidrez Cordero Gutierrez passed away peacefully on August 30, 2023. Mary was born on September 29, 1934, to, Santiago Cordero and Paublita Alvidrez Cordero. She grew up in the Valley of Garfield and Hatch, New Mexico, alongside with her siblings, Inez, Martha, Santiago Jr. (Chago), Jenny, Domingo.

Mary attended school in both Garfield and Hatch, and also attended New Mexico State University. She grew up working in the valley and commuted daily from Garfield to Las Cruces where she worked for the Legg's Company and the State of New Mexico in the Department of Human Services, Child support enforcement officer in the child support division where later she retired.

Throughout her life, Mary was active in her community serving as a volunteer working with the elderly. She had a love for sports, she enjoyed bowling, softball, basketball, and volleyball. In her years she was a softball coach and a tour guide. Her passion was volleyball in which she participated in The World Senior Olympics, where she won multiple medals and awards. She will be greatly missed by many.

She is survived by one brother, Domingo Cordero. She was blessed with five sons, three daughters, 12 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. She unites in Heaven with her grandson, Joseph Gilbert Edward Berridge; her parents; and 4 siblings.

A viewing will be held 6pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 South Espina. A prayer vigil will begin at 7pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Friday, September 22, 2023, at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Mary will be laid to rest beside her parents at St. Joseph's Cemetery, located across from St. Genevieve's Catholic Church.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Freddie Gutierrez, Robert Gutierrez, Eddie Gutierrez, Katrina Castillo, Alexandria Berridge, and Alicia Gutierrez.
