Maria de Jesus Ortiz de Lopez, age 95, of Dona Ana, NM, went to be home with our heavenly father on December 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 30, 1930, in Ojuelos Jalisco, Mexico, to Petronila Gomez and Juan Ortiz.

Maria was a dedicated and loving mother, as well as a homemaker. She was a very committed mother who always cared for her family and made sure they had what they needed. Maria loved to sing and had a passion for gardening, often tending to her beautiful rose bushes and plants. She was known for her cooking and always ensured no one went hungry. She faithfully practiced her faith and believed in our Lord Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.

She is survived by her daughters Maria E. Guerra of Dallas, TX; Amelia Navarro of Phoenix, AZ; Catalina Lopez and Sylvia Lopez, both from Las Cruces, NM; her sons Juan Lopez, Robert Lopez, Richard Lopez, from Las Cruces, NM; Fernando Lopez of Peoria, IL; Marty Lopez of Albuquerque, NM; Arnulfo Lopez of Florissant, CO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Teresa Pereyra, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Lopez of 64 years, an infant daughter, her son Gerardo Lopez, her grandson Miguel Andres Villegas, her great-grandson Roel Guerra, Jr., her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.

Visitation for Maria will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N. Mesquite St. Las Cruces, NM, with viewing at 9:30 am, followed by the prayer vigil at 10:00 am. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, followed by the burial at Dona Ana Cemetery. Following the burial services, a celebration of life will be held.
