Obituary

Marguerite Arlene Tyler met her Lord and Savior on June 30, 2026, having reached the early age of 93 years, 6 months and 16 days. Arlene was born in Kansas on December 14, 1932, to Raymond and Blanche (Callam) Slater, their third of seven children. Arlene graduated from Pawnee City High School in Pawnee City, Nebraska in 1949 at age 16, attained her elementary school teaching certificate that summer and began teaching that Fall. She married Marvin G. Packett of Pawnee City, Nebraska and found her love of travel, residing in Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas. To this union Linda, Marvin Jr. and Shelly were born.  In July 1959, when Linda was 7 years, Marvin 4 years and Shelly 2 years, Arlene married Phillip J. Tyler of Muskegon, Michigan. To this union Rocky and Michelle were born.

Arlene's love of travel took her to 49 states, Canada, Mexico and six European countries! She preferred traveling on her motorcycle and staying in her Airstream trailers. She and Phil participated in the Christian Motorcycle Association and Airstream organizations. Arlene's dream was to have her children and grandchildren spread across the United States so she could rotate visiting with them!

Arlene was successful at whatever employment she accepted. Relocating to Humboldt, Nebraska in 1973, Arlene began work at the Humboldt Post Office as a rural route mail carrier before being appointed its first female postmaster, retiring in 1994. Appeasing Arlene's love of travel, she and Phil relocated to Texas Airstream Harbor, Zavalla, Texas until 2019 when they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to be near their daughter Shelly.

Arlene celebrated over 64 years of marriage with Phil prior to his passing in March 2024. She was also preceded in death by her parents, siblings Melva Jean Hartshorn, Robert (Bob) Slater, Iona Richardson and Doreen Johnson, cousin Donna (Donnie) Johnston who was like a sister and son-in-law Joe DeCheney.

A strong woman, a woman of faith, Arlene's spirit will live on in her children Linda DeCheney (Michigan), Marvin (Melissa) Packett (Texas), Shelly (Dave Burleson) Bucher (New Mexico), Rocky (Susan) Tyler (Florida), Michelle (Shawn) Briggs (New Mexico); grandchildren Regan (Paul) Daniels (Arizona), Marshal (Wendy) Bucher (Texas), Tyler Packett (Nebraska), Jacob (Carrie) Bucher (Colorado), Samantha (John) Carruth (Georgia), Ryan DeCheney (Michigan), Kyle DeCheney (Michigan), Cameron (Toni) Briggs (Idaho), Amanda Joy (Brian) Whitten  (Florida), Shelby (Wally) Baldwin (Georgia), Robyn (Jeremy) Novak (Florida), and Sydney (Shane) Motes (Georgia); 18 great grandchildren; sister Wauneta McKnight (Nebraska), brother John Slater (Nebraska) and many nieces and nephews.

Final arrangements are pending.
