Obituary

The family of MARGARET AGNES "AGGIE" BALIZAN, of Las Cruces NM., is saddened to announce her unexpected passing on January 28, 2024, at the age of 83. Aggie was born in Las Cruces to Santiago and Josefa Valles on January 28, 1941.

She married the love of her life, Mike Balizan, on September 12, 1970. They built a life and a home together in San Ysidro.

She was a dedicated employee of White's Home and Auto, then Dona Ana MDWCA, where she retired after 23 years of work. She continued to contribute by serving on the MDWCA board after retirement.

Aggie was a warm, fun-loving, and stylish woman. She enjoyed tending to her gardens, playing at New Mexico's casinos, listening to mariachi music, watching Hallmark Movies, and planning lunch dates with friends. She will be remembered for her generosity, like gifting her famous rum cakes, biscochos, and crocheted blankets to family, friends, acquaintances, and any helpful salesclerks at places she did business.

In her passing, Agnes will be reunited with beloved husband, Mike Balizan; her parents, Santiago, and Josefa Valles; brother, Manuel Valles; sister, Celia Carbajal; and nephew, Ruben V. Carbajal.

Aggie is survived by a sister, Ina Lucero and brother, Jim Valles of Las Cruces. She was a cherished aunt throughout her life, caring for nieces and nephews like her own children.

She will be forever lovingly remembered by: Vangie and Joe Tellez, Bennie and Julie Lucero, James and Alice Lucero, Rita and John Banegas, Debbie and Marvin Paz, and Rosie Carbajal; great-nieces and nephews: Joe J. Tellez (Nancy), Lisa Hernandez (Richard), Danny Lucero (Priscilla), Vicky Lucero, John Lucero (Nicole), Laurie Martinez (Miguel), Amber Ortiz (Robert), Isaac Banegas (Jessica), Bobby Butler (Talitha), Vanessa Ruottinen (Preston).

At her request cremation has taken place and the Prayer Vigil will begin at 2:30 PM Thursday, February 22, 2024, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street where the Memorial Mass will follow immediately thereafter. Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date.
