MANUEL RAMON ALVARADO, lovingly known as "Meño, Manny & Shorty," age 76, of Las Cruces, entered eternal life on Friday, January 16, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family. Born April 10, 1949, in Santo Tomas aka "San Miguel", New Mexico. Manny was the cherished son of Alejandra Fierro and Pedro Alvarado. His life was defined by service, loyalty, and a deep love for his family and community.

Manny proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Logistics Specialist earning the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Insignia, and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.  He embodied the motto Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful), representing an unbreakable, lifelong commitment to the Nation, the Corps, and fellow Marines. After his honorable service, Manny engaged in a long career with the United States Postal Service and was appointed as the Union Representative serving as the on-site liaison between his peers and management.  In 2013, he retired as a respected mail carrier, fondly remembered by the many residents whose lives he touched during his career.

Manny valued camaraderie and community, serving as a member of the Elks Lodge #1119, and American Legion Post #2026. He had many lasting friendships, and he was known for his easy smile, generous spirit, and the steady presence he offered to those around him.  Among other milestones of his well-lived life, Manny earned the Brown Belt in Karate after the advance technique mastery.  He loved music and played the congas in a few local bands.  He was a devoted Packers fan, and he enjoyed all outdoor activities, most importantly he was his daughter's number one fan and never missed any soccer or softball games.  He will have a forever seat on the bleachers in Heaven cheering her on as he always did. His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit.  He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Those left to mourn his passing include his daughter, Dwan Alvarado (Gilbert Rodriguez) of Las Cruces; his son, Aaron Arias of Las Cruces; Alejandro Tovar of Las Cruces; his brother, Roberto Alvarado (Reyes) of San Miguel; and his sisters, Vicky Gamboa and Maria Robles (Pablo), both of Las Cruces. Former spouse, Liz Salaiz Montoya (Ray) of Las Cruces. Manny is also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild soon to arrive and his many adopted "dauu-ghters". His family will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Manny is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Kahlil Jackson; his brother, Pedro Alvarado; his sister, Manuela Alvarado; his niece, Leilani Alvarado; his nephew, Isaiah Granados, and his cousin, Ralph "Rafita" Mesa.

Visitation will commence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road, with the Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Highway 28, San Miguel. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow, and inurnment of his cremains will take place at a later date. Military honors will be accorded by the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.

Serving as casket bearers will be Roman Garcia, Ernie Valles, Manny Rodriguez, Gilbert Rodriguez, Peter Robles, and Darrion Jackson. Honorary bearers include Jacob Ribald, Mary Alvarado, and Lola Montoya.

Manny's life was a testament to service, strength, and love. His legacy will continue through the generations of family who adored him and the many friends who will remember him with gratitude and affection. Please join us for Manny's last ride through Stahmann Farms. His final journey will begin at 8:15am at Baca's Funeral Chapel and continue through his old stomping grounds—his childhood neighborhood, a place that held many memories and meant so much to him. His last ride will conclude at San Miguel church where the funeral mass will begin.
