It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mabel Whaling, 83, on July 28, 2024, in Las Cruces, NM.

Mabel was born on November 7, 1940, to William and Carolina Martinez in Carrizozo, New Mexico. She attended Las Cruces High School and went to NMSU. Mabel was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafting, spending time with her family, going to the Mariachi Conferences, selling her beautiful sterling silver jewelry at the Farmers Market and also loved her Novellas. She was also employed by NASA Test Facility as a cook in the cafeteria then was offered a position in the Purchasing Department.

She is survived by her husband, Edward; her children, Arturo Ferrales (Margaret) Gabriel Whaling, and Martin Whaling; daughters, Gloria Ferrales, Raychel Ferrales (Bruce),; grandchildren, Dominic Chavez, Monique Ferrales, Martin Whaling Jr., and Zendayah Whaling; great grandchildren, Giovanni Enriquez and Lucas Enriquez.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Carolina Martinez; brothers Richard Martinez, Willie Martinez, Morris Martinez; sisters, Velia Barela, Rita Martinez; and her son, Gabriel Whaling.

Serving as casket bearers will be Martin Whaling, Dominic Chavez, Freddie Martinez, Ronnie Martinez, Johnny Ray Miramontes, and Gloria Ferrales.

Honorary casket bearers are Raychel Ferrales, Bruce Lenderman, Pepper Whaling, and Chris Whaling.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, starting at 9:30am at The Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 South Espina.  A prayer vigil will begin at 10am followed by a funeral mass at 10:30am. The rite of Christian burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 West Picacho Ave.
