LUZ ORTA SERNA "NANA" passed away peacefully Friday, April 24, 2026. She was born In Conchos, Mexico on April 9, 1941, to Hipolito and Luisa Orta.

Nana enjoyed life, loved her church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, family and chatting with friends. Moms' witty sense of humor, kindness and smile will be missed.

Luz is survived by her sons, Joe Serna (Lucy) and Alfonso Serna (Rogue); her daughters, Olivia Serna (Wally) and Cristalle Pantoja; brother, Jose Orta and sister, Manuela Salcido (Henry); her loving  grandchildren, Gabby (Zach), Diego, Joallyn, Sophie, Brianna (Allen), J.C, Luis, Allie, Alejandro, Matteo, Alfonso, Adriana, and Lucila.

Luz is preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso "Bubba" Serna; her parents, Hipolito & Luisa Orta; sisters, Juanita Portillo, Mary Montoya, and Margarita Orta; brothers, Lupe Orta, and Hipolito Orta.

We would like to thank Yecenia Flores, Michelle Rivera (Mesilla Valley Hospice palliative care), Enhabit Hospice, and staff for the kindness and care you gave our mom. We are truly thankful.

At her request cremation has taken place and Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at The Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas, where the Memorial Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with The Reverend Valentine Jankowski, Celebrant. Inurnment of cremains will follow at the Tortugas Cemetery.
