On August 12, 2024, our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister, Lucina (Lucy) Sanchez Pacheco, joined the angels in heaven surrounded by her adoring family at her home in Las Cruces.

Lucy was born on June 30, 1941, in Lordsburg, NM to Ramon and Elvira Sanchez. In high school, she was president of the National Honor Society, member of the school band, and All State band, yearbook editor, head majorette, member of the Student Council, and delegate to Girls' State. She loved music and played the piano and clarinet. She attended New Mexico State University on a music scholarship and marched in the Pride band.

While at NMSU, she met and married Roman Pacheco. She received her B.S. in Elementary Education. They welcomed their first child, Stephen, and moved to southern California after graduation. They soon welcomed a daughter, Leticia. They remained in California for a few years with our mother enjoying raising her children.

Our parents later returned to Las Cruces where they welcomed their third child, Larissa. After a few years, our mother began her teaching career. She substituted for many years and then taught for 25 years at Hermosa Heights Elementary. She loved teaching and always encouraged every person she met to get a good education. When she was out and about, she would often run into her former students. They always had kind words for her and thanked her for all the encouragement she had always given them.  She was beyond proud of her three children. Each of them getting their degrees in Civil Engineering, following in their father's footsteps.

After the passing of her husband, Roman, she continued to lead her family with love. To say she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren is an understatement! She was at every game, awards ceremony and concert. They always knew that Grandma Lucy would be there to cheer them on.

She spent the later years of her life with her adoring partner, Arturo Diaz. They travelled the world together exploring places like France, Italy, England, Spain, Amsterdam, Costa Rica, Cancun, Hawaii, Mexico City, Canary Islands and other tropical locations. They flew in gliders, helicopters, hot air balloons, and even ziplined through the jungle! She loved supporting her Aggies and had season tickets for football and basketball. She and Arturo loved tailgating and often attended the WAC tournaments in Las Vegas. They also attended spring training in Arizona and several MLB and NFL games.

She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, partner, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. So many roles and she was wonderful in all of them! She was kind and generous. She was always welcoming and genuinely cared for others!  She lived life to the fullest, while she was able to. Her smile would light up a room and her laugh would light up your soul.  She will be missed more than words can say. We are grateful for having been part of her journey.

Lucy is preceded in death by her husband Roman, her beloved daughter, Tish, and her mother and father.

Those left to mourn her are her children, Stephen Pacheco (Maria), Larissa Armendariz (Joe Henry), and son-in-law Andy Segovia. Her loving partner Arturo Diaz, brothers Ramon (Moni) Sanchez, Edward Sanchez.  Her grandchildren Andres Segovia (Gabby), Ryan Armendariz, Gabriel Pacheco, Samantha Segovia, Justin Armendariz, and Carolyn Armendariz. Her great grandchildren Jaycee, Juliet, and Michael Segovia, twins Olivia and Sofia Armendariz and Mason Pacheco.  Brothers-in law Orlando Pacheco (Mary) and David McKinley, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and so many special friends.

The family would like to extend our special thanks to her caregivers Lourdes and Andrea and the staff of Tender Care Hospice.

Casket bearers include Andres Segovia, Ryan Armendariz, Gabriel Pacheco, Justin Armendariz, Brandon Wells, and Bryan Wells.

A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge at 3000 Elks Dr. in Las Cruces immediately following the Funeral Mass. A burial and a committal service will take place the following day at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W Picacho Avenue.
