Las Cruces

Obituary

Lucas C. Arzabal, a devoted father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born on December 21, 1946, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Lucas was the second of eight children. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, earning the Bronze Star for his distinguished service. Following his military career, he dedicated many years to the Las Cruces Public Schools as a master plumber. Outside of work, Lucas found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cheering on his favorite football teams, roasting fresh chile, and crafting with woodworking. Above all, he cherished his family.

He is survived by his two children and five grandchildren. The family extends a special thank you to everyone who checked in on Lucas and provided care and comfort during his final days. His memory and spirit will forever live on in our hearts and family stories.

A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church (3600 Paroquia Street), followed by a prayer vigil at 11:00 AM and a funeral Mass. The Rite of Christian Burial and Committal will take place at Tortugas Cemetery immediately following the service.

Arrangements are entrusted to Baca’s Funeral Chapel and Sunset Crematory, 300 E. Boutz Road (575-527-2222). Online condolences may be shared at www.bacasfuneralchapelslascruces.com.
