Louis M Swartz, 89, of Las Cruces, NM passed away after a prolonged illness on December 1, 2023 at La Posada Assisted Living.

Louis was born in Deming, NM to Edward J Swartz and Trinidad Chavez on April 25, 1934.  He graduated from NMSU in 1957 with a BS degree in mechanical engineering and from NMHU in 1979 with an MBA.  He moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1963 where he worked for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer for the KAFB Weapons Lab.  He was interested in photography and dabbled in both watercolor and oil painting.  He was an art, music, and wine enthusiast and loved to read.

Louis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary G Swartz; his children Dr. Cecilia M Tellez, Michael L Swartz, Paul G Tellez, and Anna T Swartz; his granddaughter Mariana Tellez Hernandez; his brother E James Swartz; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 6 PM Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, December 15, 2023, The Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S Espina Street. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road, Las Cruces where he will be laid to rest.
