Obituary

LILIA MEDRANO HERNANDEZ passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Las Cruces New Mexico. Lilia was born in Chamberino, NM on June 10, 1939, to Matias Medrano and Victoria Jaquez Medrano.

Lilia is survived by son, Raul Hernandez Jr. and daughter, Frances Hernanez, her beloved grandchildren, Victoria, (Rene), Angel and Rosa Ontiveros, Michael, and Angel Hernandez and Martin Zamora; a sister, Lydia Holguin (Felix) and brother, Robert “Bobby” Medrano (Norma) and numerous nieces and nephews. Lilia is preceded in death by her parents, Matias and Victoria Medrano; brothers, Dario Madrano and Matias Medrano Junior.

Lilia was a kind person; she was grateful for what she had in life and accepted life as it came. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She aways had a smile and hug for her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed doing her puzzles and coloring books. Lilia had a very good memory and told many stories of growing up and incidents that happened in her parents’ lives.

Lilia’s family wishes to thank Dora Gonzalez for the 20 years that Dora spent as a care giver with Lilia. The family also wishes to thank all the Doctors, nurses and caregivers at the Las Cruces Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Facilities and the Clinca de Familia in San Miguel.

Visitation for Lilia will begin at 9 AM Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Hwy 28 in San Miguel with the Prayer Vigil at 10 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Chamberino Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved parents in the family plot.

Serving as caskets bearers will be Angel Ontiveros, Rene Ramirez, Miguel Ruiz, Inez “Goody” Ruiz, Esteban Holguin and Carmeron McMullen.
