LARRY BENAVIDEZ, age 57, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 9, 2025, in Tucson, AZ. He was born October 3, 1967, in Silver City, NM., to Julia Altamirano Young and David Torres Benavidez. In September 1995, Larry began his employment with Freeport McMoran where he was a Sr. Supervisor of Drilling and Blasting. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and cruises. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Tamra Burris Benavidez of Silver City; his father, David Benavidez of Colorado Springs, CO; 3 sons, James Benavidez and wife, Stephany of Hurley; Gabriel Benavidez of Santa Clara and Jerod Sandoval of Nashville, TN., 2 daughters, Ashley Benavidez-Cabrera and husband, Gabriel, of Hurley and Nicole Sandoval of Morenci, AZ; a brother Danny Benavidez and wife, Rachel of Silver City; and his step-father, Dennis Atwater. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren, AJ, Destiny, Gabriel Matthew, Adriana, Isaiah, and Alaia, and one great-granddaughter, Laila Villanueva. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Young Atwater; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Chonita Young; paternal grandparents, Bernardo, and Esther Benavidez.
Visitation for Larry will begin at 6 PM Friday, February 21, 2025, at Santa Clara de Asis Roman Catholic Church, 207 S. Bayard Street in Santa Clara with the Prayer Vigil at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 204 Cortez Avenue, in Hurley. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Fierro Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
Serving as casket bearers will be Gabriel Benavidez, Jesus Aguilera, Gabriel Cabrera, Gabriel Matthew Cabrera, Jade Benavidez, Leon Klement, Jerod Sandoval, and Tracy Harris. Honorary bearers are, AJ Benavidez, Isaiah Cabrera, Robert Pedraza, David Terrazas and Brent Stacy.
