Joy Dolores Bohannon Hartley, 96, of Las Cruces, NM, passed away on March 18, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society Las Cruces Village.

Joy was born September 12, 1927 in Rincon, NM, to Virgil Bohannon and Dovie Wellborn Bohannon. She attended New Mexico A&M (now known as NMSU), where she met and married her husband, Carl Hartley. in 1948. They lived in various places around New Mexico and Colorado, before settling in Las Cruces to raise 3 sons, Jay, Matthew, and John.

She learned many different arts and crafts. She was an exceptional cook, and an excellent florist.

She is survived by 2 sons, Matthew and John Hartley; a granddaughter, Marion Blair Hartley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Virgil and John Bohannon; her sister, Bertha Bohannon Hall; her husband of 58 years, Carl Hartley; a son, Jay Hartley; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Hardman Hartley (John); and a granddaughter, Monica Brock Hartley.

At her request, there will be no funeral service.

The family wish to give thanks and gratitude to the Good Samaritan Society, and to High Desert Hospice.
