JOSEPHINE APPELZÖLLER GARCIA, 81 of Mesilla. Our beloved wife, mother and friend, Josephine, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Josephine was born in La Mesa, New Mexico to Jacob and Juanita Appelzöller on March 19, 1942. She was fondly known to family and friends as Josie.

Josie had over 30 years of service to New Mexico State University, Entomology and Plant and Weed Sciences. Josie came from the Department of Agronomy Cotton Research Laboratory. Josie always approached her job in a calm and professional way. Department faculty appreciated her for her human qualities. Josie was a personal friend to a long list of graduate students and especially helped foreign students with the English language.

Josie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Charlie; daughter Rebeca; her parents, Jacob, and Juanita Appelzöller; and her sisters Hortencia Madrid and Elma Gonzales. She is survived by her son Reynaldo A. Garcia and his wife Becky Veitch; her daughter Martina Gerhardstein and her husband Ken; her granddaughter Marisol; her sister Ester Rosas and her husband Eusebio, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life and remembrance of Mrs. Garcia will be held at 2 PM Friday, September 8, 2023, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.
