It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved JOSE DOLORES SILVA JR., on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 58. Jose was a resident of Gilbert, Arizona and was in the Mesilla Valley for the holidays visiting his family. He was born March 7, 1965, in Las Cruces to Guadalupe Hermosillo and Jose D. Silva Sr. He will always be a great source of pride for his family. After graduating from Las Cruces High School, he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering at New Mexico State University. In his engineering career, Jose dedicated over 20 years to the Salt River Project (SRP) and retired as a principal engineer. He served his country courageously in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the Army Reserves 383rd Quartermaster Company and was honorably discharged.
His storytelling and contagious laugh could make any room dissolve into laughter. Jose was a man who held immeasurable love and admiration for his friends and family. He left his mark as a compassionate and devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Those left to mourn his passing include his loving parents, Jose, and Guadalupe Silva; two sisters Rosa Luna (husband Ruben), and Myrna Lorena Garibay (husband Gustavo); nieces Cindy Rivera, Cassandra Garibay, and Victoria Luna; nephew Danny Luna; as well as cousins and dear friends.
The Prayer Vigil will begin at 10 AM Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road with the Funeral Liturgy to follow thereafter. The Rite of Committal and Interment will be held at 2 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery that same afternoon. Military Honor will be accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard.
Serving as casket bearers will be his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, https://rmhc.org/donate, in memory of Jose.
