Obituary

With deep sadness we announce the passing of José Ernesto Renteria, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Mr. Renteria of Las Cruces entered eternal life on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center.

Ernesto was born on October 18, 1932 to Melchor and Maria Renteria. Those left to mourn his passing are sons Fred (Yvonne) of Las Cruces, NM; Andy (Kimberly) of San Antonio, TX; Danny of El Paso, TX; Rick (Michelle) of Colorado Springs, CO; David (Andy) of Clarksville, TN; Jaime (Yaharia) of Las Cruces, NM; daughters Dolores Vasquez (Frank) of El Paso, TX; Alice Gallegos of Las Cruces, NM; brothers Amador of Las Cruces, NM; Ruben of Las Cruces, NM; and sister Olivia Quintana (Arturo) of Bayard, NM. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lilia, son Ernest, twin grandsons, his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Ernesto, fondly known as Grandpa by many, was an Air Force veteran and retired from White Sands Missile Range as a communication technician. He also worked several years for Rawson Builders Supply. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, which he taught his sons to enjoy as well. He enjoyed working on his vehicles and loved camping in his younger years.

A prayer vigil for Mr. Renteria will be at 5:00 p.m. and recitation of the rosary will begin at 06:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Baca's Funeral Chapel Las Cruces. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Tortugas, NM. Interment and Rite of Committal will conclude at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W. Picacho Ave, where he will be laid to rest next to his loving wife Lilia.

Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons Aaron Renteria, Charles Vasquez, Ezekiel Gallegos, Chris Renteria, Francisco Renteria Rice, Danny Renteria. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of his grandchildren.

The Renteria family wish to thank their sister Alice for her awesome caregiving along with Ezekiel and Abigail during his illness. We would also like to thank the ICU nurses and staff for their care.
