In Loving Memory of Jose Luz Gomez, Sunrise April 20, 1932 – Sunset July 25, 2025.

With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Jose Luz Gomez, a faithful man whose life was a testament to wisdom, humility, and the power of perseverance.

He lost his father at the tender age of 8, a loss that shaped his strength and maturity from a young age. At just 13, he left his hometown, Romita, Guanajuato, accompanied only by one of his siblings, and moved to the big city, seeking a better future. In time, their mother and three younger siblings followed, reuniting the family under the same roof once more.

Though his formal education ended in the second grade, his intelligence, spirit, and determination were far beyond what any classroom could measure. Should he have been given the opportunity, he surely would have become a professor. His wisdom taught us all.

He read the Bible with dedication. Not just understanding its words but deciphering its truths with insight that humbled even the most learned.

There was an aura of respect that surrounded him—unspoken but felt. Whether in quiet conversation or simply in his presence, people sensed his integrity, strength, and dignity.

He could narrate a story so vividly that you felt as though you were there.

He was an avid fan of boxing. He was in a bowling league in his younger years. One of his great joys was watching films from the Golden Era of cinema: Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, Luis Aguilar, and so many more.

We remember him as a man of unwavering faith, steady love, and quiet strength. He shaped our lives through grand gestures, but through everyday lessons, deep conversations, and the unwavering example of how he lived.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Elena; and their daughter, Maria Gover (Sean); his six children, Elvia Orozco (Francisco); Arturo Gomez (Hortencia), Silvia Gomez, Patricia Rodriguez (Javier); Oscar Gomez (Rosario); and Susana Gomez; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; three nieces that considered him a dad, Raquel Dominguez (Blas RIP) along with her four boys that considered him a grandad, Blasito Dominguez (Cindy); Panchito Frank Dominguez; Jessie Dominguez (Tatiana); and Manny Dominguez;  Laura Rodriguez (Luis) and her 3 three boys; and Isabel (Patrick) and three sons, with her oldest Raul Trevino, neighborhood friends Ramona and Hector Garcia who helped him plenty, and many  family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Cirilo Gomez and Petra Garcia, siblings Refugio Gomez, Cirilo Gomez, Ramona Gomez, Anapola Franco Gomez, and Manuel Gomez.

Those honored to be his Pallbearers are: Blasito Dominguez, Panchito Dominguez, Jessie Dominguez, Manny Dominguez, Alonso Ronquillo and Oscar Retana.

One verse that reflected his heart was John 3-16—

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Viewing for Jose will be August 5, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. with his Funeral Service on August 6 ,2025 at 10:00 am 2025 at Baca's Funeral Chapels, Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa NM.
