GUADALUPE ALVAREZ, age 88, of Las Cruces passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born February 5, 1935, in San Antonio, NM to Filomeno and Ignacita Chavez Alvarez. Guadalupe retired from NMSU and was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn his passing include his six children, Rebecca A. Archuleta (Richard) of Las Cruces, Marisela Estrada of Dallas, TX, Stephen Alvarez of Las Cruces, and Stephanie M. Alvarez (Joe) of Las Cruces, Ben Alvarez of Dallas, TX, and Terry Gomez of Dallas, TX.
Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Crystal Kaydahzinne of Dallas, TX, Richard A. Archuleta of Austin, TX, Enrique Archuleta (Delylah) of Las Cruces, Serina Alvarez of Las Cruces, Alyssa, Brianna, and Mariah Rivera of Las Cruces, Genevieve Wilson (Ethan) of Dallas, TX, Melissa Gillette (Mark) of El Paso, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle Martinez of Dallas, TX, Camilla Cutts of Dallas, TX, Paxton Bishop of Dallas, TX, Izaiah Robles of Las Cruces, Shawn Wilson of Dallas, TX, and Mark and Maria Gillette of El Paso, TX.
Surviving siblings his two brothers Joe Alvarez of Los Angeles, CA, and Eddie Alvarez (Frances) of Las Cruces, two sisters Paula Ornelas of Atlanta, GA, and Silvia Arrey (Marty) of Las Cruces; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Alvarez of Minnesota and Betty Alvarez of Phoenix, AZ as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara M. Alvarez, his parents, five children Diana, Guadalupe Jr., Richard, David, and Corina Alvarez, four brothers, Anselmo, George, Johnny, and Alex Alvarez; four sisters, Bertha Alvarez, Elvira Garcia, Bennie Gamboa, and Connie Bustamante.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina St. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with Fr. Theophine Okafor presiding. Inurnment of cremains will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue.
