JOHNNY CARRERAS GOMEZ, 74, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, entered eternal rest on December 23, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Born April 17, 1951, in Garfield, New Mexico, Johnny lived a life centered on family, faith, and steady work. He was the son of Domingo Krantz Gómez and Emilia Carreras Gómez and remained deeply connected to his roots in the Hatch Valley of southern New Mexico throughout his life.

Johnny spent more than 30 years working in the building materials industry, where he was employed by Builders Block, Featherlite, and ACME Brick. He retired in 2004 after a long career. After only a few months, retirement didn't suit Johnny. Later that year, he returned to the workforce and went on to spend another five years serving Doña Ana County before fully retiring.

Johnny C. Gómez lived his life with a generous heart and a steady faith, guided by the words he cherished: "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God." He was the kind of man who gave without hesitation—if someone needed something and he had it, it was freely given.

He found joy in many simple but meaningful passions. Johnny loved playing his 12-string Fender guitar, singing in the church choir, cooking for family and friends, and working with his hands. He crafted wooden crosses from old wood he found throughout the valley and created jewelry that he most often gave away, never seeking recognition. Everything he made carried a piece of his gentle spirit.

A man of respect, dignity, and quiet honor, Johnny's presence brought comfort to those around him. His generosity, creativity, and faith left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His legacy is one of compassion, generosity, and modesty, and everyone will greatly miss his warm smile and selfless spirit. Johnny was a faithful member of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Doña Ana, New Mexico.

He is remembered by his wife, Patsy Sánchez Gómez; his son, John Vincent Gomez, who resides in Tolleson, Arizona; and his siblings: Hugo (Leticia) Gomez, Lucy Ann Trujillo, Julie (Michael) Torres, Domingo "Tito" (Lourdes) Gomez, Tony (Elaine) Gomez, and Delmira Marmolejo. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Domingo K. Gómez and Emilia C. Gómez, and his brothers, Ricky C. Gómez and Domingo K. Gómez Jr.

Visitation will begin at 6 PM Thursday, January 8, 2025, at Our Lady of All Nations Catholic Church in Rincon, New Mexico, with the Holy Rosary at 7 PM led by Mary Ann Benavidez. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, January 9, 2026, in the same church, with Reverend Bill McCann, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Rincon Cemetery. After the burial, a reception will take place at Our Lord of Mercy Parish Hall in Hatch, New Mexico.

Serving as casket bearers will be his nephews: Johnny Hinojos, Frankie Hinojos, Larry Hinojos, Marty Hinojos, Bennie Joe Garcia, Jimmy Lara, Eddie Vallejos, Ronnie Hinojos, Louie Hinojos, Danny Hinojos, John Padilla, Xavier Padilla, Carlos Giron, Joe Giron, Benjamin Giron, Randy Sanchez, and Antonio Romero.

Josie Ostos, Joe DiMatteo, Albert, and Carla Balizan will provide music for the funeral services.
