John A. Patterson, age 73, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

John was born on October 24, 1952, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Malcolm D. Patterson and Mary Lewis Patterson. He grew up in Eunice, New Mexico, where he graduated from high school in 1971.

In 1977, John married Ruth Stark Patterson. He worked for Texaco and later Chevron until his retirement. John and Ruth then moved to Carlsbad, where he served as manager of Dixie Electric for ten years before retiring once again.

John enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Patterson; his sons, Andrew Patterson and wife Michelle of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Benjamin Patterson and wife Susan of Midland, Texas; his grandchildren, Emmalee Patterson of Las Cruces, and RexAnn and Kate Patterson of Midland; his sister, Eva Bonham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces, cousins, and a host of dear friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Mary Patterson.

Funeral services will be scheduled at a later date.
