John Mark Chapman, 63, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away on August 24, 2026, in Las Cruces. He was born October 29, 1962, in Guymon, Oklahoma, to Johnnie and Beverly Chapman.

John grew up in Cimarron County OK and called the area home throughout his life. He attended Keyes Public Schools from first grade through his senior year, graduating from Keyes High School in 1980. Following high school, John attended Liberal Vo-Tech, where he studied electronics.

John grew up attending the First Baptist Church if Keyes, where he was saved and baptized December 5th 1971. John met and married Kathy Janos of Strafford, Texas, on February 5, 1983. To this union, two daughters were born, Jessica and Johanna.

Early in his career, John worked as a lineman for the City of Truth of Consequences NM. He later worked as an electrical journeyman, a trade he continued throughout his career.

John enjoyed time with family and friends playing horseshoes, darts and card games. His love of nature made him an avid collector of interesting shaped rocks and sticks.

John is survived by two daughters, Jessica Heintzleman and Johanna Teater and their spouses and one grandchild; his friend and partner Sherry King; his parents Johnnie and Beverly Chapman; his siblings, Brenda Walters (John), Linda Pierce (Danny), Aaron Chapman, and James Chapman (Marcy), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial celebration will be determined at a later time.
