In Loving Memory of Joey Ybarvo

With profound sadness, the Ybarvo and Villaseñor families announce the passing of Joey Ybarvo, age 43, on June 26, 2026, in Las Cruces, NM., Joey passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.

Joey was born and raised in Las Cruces, graduating from Las Cruces High School in 2001 before earning his degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from New Mexico State University. At NMSU, he found brotherhood in Pi Kappa Alpha, where he formed lifelong friendships as well as many other friendships that shaped his life. Joey carried a deep love for the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Robert Earl Keen-songs that now serve as gentle reminders of the moments and memories he shared with those who held him dear.

To know Joey was to love him.

He had an extraordinary way of turning friends into family and making everyone feel like they belonged. With his infectious smile, unforgettable laugh, and genuine kindness, Joey made everyone feel welcome. He never met a stranger, was always just a phone call away, and loved bringing people together. Whether with family or lifelong friends, Joey believed life was best shared with the people you love.

Above all, Joey was a devoted father. His daughter, Nirvana Ybarvo, was the love of his life and his greatest pride. Anyone who knew Joey knew that being her dad was his greatest joy, and the love they shared was undeniable.

Joey is survived by his beloved daughter, Nirvana Ybarvo, and her mother, Lensi Shakra; his father, Joel Ybarvo and Maria Martinez; his mother, Guadalupe Aguilar and her husband, Dan; his brother, Joshua Ybarvo and Kelli Jameson; his niece and nephew, Josephine and Jameson Ybarvo; his brother, David Muñoz and wife Andrea; his nephews Jackson and Carter Muñoz; along with countless aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever carry his memory & legacy in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, David and Josefina Ybarvo; his maternal grandparents, Rita and Alberto Villaseñor Sr.; his uncles, David Ibarbo and Ismael Ybarvo.

Though Joey's life was far too short, the love he gave and the lives he touched will endure for generations. If you were lucky enough to know Joey, you were lucky enough to be loved by him.

The Rosary will begin at 10 AM Friday July 31, 2026, followed immediately by the Funeral Mass at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1240 S. Espina Street. A Celebration of Joey's Life will follow at 5 PM at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. The Ybarvo and Villaseñor families are deeply grateful for all the love and support they have received.
