A proud and dedicated member of the Construction Union, International Brotherhood of Carpenters, Jesus spent his life building not only structures, but also opportunities and stability for those around him. He was active in the movement for farmworkers' rights through Cesar Chavez for Farmers and served his community as President of the Mesa Prieta Housing Association, where he worked tirelessly to support local families.

In 1952, Jesus married the love of his life, Amelia Calderon. Together they shared 74 beautiful years of marriage, raising a family grounded in love, respect, and unity.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Amelia; four sons, Felipe Samaniego (Anita Sabichi) of Santa Fe, Miguel Samaniego of Las Cruces, Adrian Samaniego (Rosemary) of Denver, CO, and Juan Samaniego (Melisa Sanchez) of Los Lunas; and three daughters, Isela Forrester of Mesquite, Ana Maria Samaniego-Gallegos (Victor) of Santa Fe, and Yvonne Samaniego of Las Cruces.

Jesus is also survived by three brothers, Ruben, Nicholas, and Baltazar Samaniego; two sisters, Eduarda "Lala" Samaniego and Amparo Palacios; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and admired him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Francisca Chavira.

A Rosary will be held at 10:30AM Monday, February 23, 2026  at St. Genevieve's, 100 S Espina St, Las Cruces, NM 88001, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00AM.
